Why learn English?

    I know that English is the language of science, computers, diplomacy and tourism. Many international businesses conduct meetings and email in English. Traveling around the world use English as a common language. Having knowledge is incredibly important to start my researches in the number of scientific papers. If I have a good knowledge of it also can easily access to international films, music and literature. Some experiences will make me grow as a person in learning the values, habits, and the way of life in culture which is different from me.     In my working place, there is very few workers can speak well in English. For them, English can sound foreign, frustrating and confusing. If I can pass certificate level with higher scores or communicate well with my customers. It will increase my self worth in my career. In addition to I can learn much science papers to improve my knowledge in specific areas. It will give me a lot of satisfactions and the progress will make me feel great.

    There are tons of resources on the internet you can use to learn English for free. Every video comes with subtitles, gives you some pictures and memorizable stories. You also can learn grammar and definition info through some English lessons. All of them are valuable if you take it seriously.

My first adopted husky(My first love)

   She is my first husky which was adopted by my landlord in 2013. Her name is Cheese. He had been rescued from a dog shelter in Nanliao. She was a considerate and disciplined girl. She did not like to urinate at home and must go outside from home at least 2 times per day. She was tolerant to be cleaned after walking, never complain about anything.

    Every time I want to go out with her, she danced for a while to show her excited feeling. Her love shape on her head always attracted pedestrians to greet her. She showed her polite manners to anyone. I thought she has been trained well by her owner before was being caught in a dog shelter.

    Once upon a time, I wanted to go out for work but she suddenly surreptitiously rushed out from the front door before my leaving. I shouted loudly and chased her to the busy road. She was accidentally hit by a car hardly and her feet feel numb to walk to the side of the road. I cried for a while and took her to the veterinarian nearby. She was diagnosed with several symptoms from chronic diseases, such as kidney disease, tumors of the ureters, veterinarian detected some shadows in her lungs. The veterinarian estimated her life will be shorter than half a year as she is too old. Therefore the veterinarian suggested not to take surgery as she may die anytime or anywhere and let her stay at home for self-recovery.

    I cannot forget the time she went silent beside me. The fireworks bloomed in the sky and she fell down on the ground and never stood up again. I felt very regret the time I was too careless to let her be hit by a car. I promised never to let my dogs ran away from me again.

 

Economy is soft science, make it flexible

 

" Economics is in many respects the queen of the soft sciences. It’s expected to be better than the rest. It’s my view that economics is better at the multi-disciplinary stuff than the rest of the soft science. And it’s also my view that it’s still lousy"

    For sure, when I studied high school, I learned about microeconomics, which approaches to the human behavior on-demand and supply which can influence society. The theory has many interesting facts that made you understood more about the consumptions culture in a country. However, the economics course cannot be defined as a hard science, you cannot estimate and conclude all the consumption behavior in an equation. There are too many variables and reasons to affect consumer behaviors, you cannot adopt the specific equation throughout the history on a country.

    As I said before, do not try to predict the future. Listen to the news every day and try to immerse yourself in this newest and worrying economy crisis. Do not be too pessimistic, but need to be always be cautious and embrace yourself to survive it in the future.

Nobel Prize in Physics

 

    About the earth climate change is an old topic in physical sciences. It began in 1824 with Fourier. He was the first person to study the Earth’s temperature from a mathematical perspective. He examined variations in temperature between day and night, and between summer and winter, and concluded that the planet was much warmer than a simple analysis might suggest.He recognized that the atmosphere of earth is ostensibly transparent to the visible radiation from the sun and the earth convert the visible radiation into “dark heat”, the dark energy of Fourier’s time. He surmised that this must interact somehow with the atmosphere to keep earth warm. 

    Scientist subsequently measure in the laboratory the absorption and emission of what we call infrared radiation Fourier’s dark heat. It was to take 70 years before savant arenas took these observations and these measurements and combined them in the first mathematical model of climate. He predicted that if the concentration of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere increased so too with the temperature of the earth. Another 70 years, two world wars and the computer revolution would pass over of these this several savant. Physical modeling of earth's climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming" and "understanding of complex systems".

The age of Syukuru Manabe is 90 years old, Japanese born American meteorologist and climatologist, who pioneer the use of computers to simulate global climate change and natural climate variations.  He has developed 3-D dimensional models of atmosphere. They used the model simulate the response of temperature and hydrologic cycle to increase CO2. They can apply the model to the study of past climate change He and his colleagues knit together this web of processes including key aspects of the atmosphere’s thermodynamics & dynamics and made the first prediction reliable that if you double the carbon dioxide in earth’s atmosphere, their surface temperature would increase by  two degree Celsius.

    Klaus Hasselman  is 89 years old , is a leading German oceanographer and climate modeler. He is best know for developing the Hasselmann model of climate variability .

Hasselmann has published papers on climate dynamics, stochastic processes, ocean waves, remote sensing, and integrated assessment studies. His reputation in oceanography was primarily founded on a set of papers on non-linear interactions in ocean waves. 

He made the analogy between the rapidly varying weather and the slowly varying climate and Brownian motion from Einstein’s theory whereby rapid collisions of water molecules with pollen grains. Displace them slowly over time. He then predicted that the weather on time scales of days influences the ocean on the time scale of years. He went further with these ideas and he constructed a systematic statistical way to compare measurements observations and models to extract the fingerprints of particular physical processes in the climate system. 

    Galileo peered into outer space with his telescope. Giorgio Parisi is a 73 years old , an Italian theoretical physicist. His research has focused on quantum field theory, statistical mechanics and complex systems.He peered into inner space with mathematics and he is particularly known for his work on spin glasses and related statistical mechanics models originating in optimization theory and biology.

    People have many types of ideas all of the time. Going for a walk every morning, stopping eating after 8pm or exercising after a meal every day. The problem isn’t idea but the problem is to take the ideas seriously. When you take idea seriously it means you make it a priority. It means you prioritize the execution of the idea above your desire to do other things. It means you give weight to the idea rather than your moods.When you take your ideas seriously, it means you take yourself seriously. This is the attitude of discipline. This is the mindset of success. This is the practice of building good habits.

    Recently I studied a lot about the famous Charlie Munger, an American billionaire investor, businessman, philanthropist, who is the best friend of Warren Buffett. He has a famous quote on ideas and why you should take start taking some ideas seriously.

Why I prefer to learn Japanese than Korean?

 

    Recently I have downloaded some apps to learn English with other friends through social media. Most of the cyber-friends would like to chit-chat in the Korean language than other languages. The success of the Korean wave is due to the development of K-Pop stars, movies, and online sharing platforms, which have allowed the Korean industry to reach a sizable overseas over all the world, particularly teenagers.

    Yesterday a Korean guy asked me if I want to learn a new language, which one would you select? I replied that I prefer to learn Japanese than Korean. Japan's industrial products and most advanced technology have been widely used in the world such as AI, auto-cars, robotics, bullet trains, and so on. But how about Korean? What products had been invented by Korean? As my purpose to learn a language is to improve the way people live of daily lives instead of watching TV or dramas.

The most admired man

 

    Benjamin Franklin was a legend. He dedicated himself as a writer, publisher, philopsopher, scientist, politics, and so on. The most surprised me was that his formal schooling was less than 2 years but read many books, wrote enormous newspapers articles, discovered electricity, and invented iron rods. Although he had neither formal training nor grounding in math, he undertook a vast amount of what he called " scientific amusements".

I like his word: " As we enjoy great advantages from the inventions of others, we should be glad of the opportunity to serve others by any invention of ours, and this we should do freely and generously." Therefore he never patented any of his inventions.

No wonder that Charlie Munger admires him the most. Benjamin studies many different branches of science. His scientific observations and developments contributed a lot to the community and the world. Without Benjamin Franklin, I think that America will not be strong and independent as the current situation. 

    Based on my observation, the vital characteristic is consistency and keep enthusiastic in many kinds of aspects. Do not be afraid to learn something that seems like very difficult to you, embrace yourself to be a good learner from now.

Study while working

    

    Since I left from Alpha Networks Company in 2011, I have been hired by Powertech Cooperation on Valentine's Day. While I was working in a new company, I decided to take some courses at Chunghwa University. What I was aiming for flexible job improving skills, knowledge, and more "hirable" with upgrading my degree certificate.

    Handling a full-time job and studies at the same time requires a good level of planning and prioritizations. Some students prefer to focus on studies only to get more achievements on their studies. Frankly speaking, the key is money. Every semester, I decided how many courses that I could take. Sometimes, I sacrificed my holidays and showed my dedication to my thesis. When the time for submitting my thesis was closer, I tend to bit off more than I can chew. Both of the studies and working time schedule have increased an enormous pressure.

     As I was working in the experiment lab, I can use many types of equipment to perform my experiments for my thesis. Thankfully, I can transmit my test results out from my company at that moment. Since 2014, all USBs was prohibited and strictly prohibit data transmission out from my company. After graduating master's degree from Mechanical Engineering in Chunghua, I got promoted and received an increase in my salary.

Domino effect

 

    You can change your daily habit by domino effect, for example, whenever I wake up between 6:00~6:30am, I may do it again the next day. Five days later and you realize that this regular morning ritual of bed-making has become a habit per se. My dog will come to me and urge me to walk with them. I listen to BBC radio news when walking with my dogs. After I have walked my dogs, I also feed them breakfast and waiting them to finish their breakfast. After finished eating, I notice that the dishes are dirty and the floor is sticky oily. I wash dishes, clean and mop the floor. Finally I clean my dogs' bowl and change the clean water before driving to my work place. The routine of taking care of my household becomes a domino effect that grows with each new good habit is added.

    As a personal example, if I stick my habit of writing a blogger essay per day. Then I naturally find myself more focused at editing the perfect sentences, learning vocabulary, reading more journals or podcasts, and thinking more profoundly at my attitude and behavior even though I never make a plan to specifically improve these behaviors.

    If you always curious about on taking a new habit, you will feel excited and keep doing it as each tiny domino falls, you start believing new things about yourself and building identity-based habits.

Why still single?

 

    When you ask me why I am still single? I assumed this question mostly comes from the young people or the people who have stuck to the older idea of an old tradition. Drive people to have children by celebrating childbearing without acknowledge the dire consequences for themselves and the planet. Fortunately, I am living in the place where stay away from my family and my friends. Nobody can bother me in Taiwan. This may be the true in evolutionary terms, our prime biological function is to perpetuate our genes on line. But this is the most selfish things to do from a biological terms. You are stealing the planet resources in order to perpetuate your genes. I have 4 siblings, my little brother has a newborn daughter, I think it is enough.

    When I was 30 years old, I always knew I didn't want kids, for environmental reasons. By growing up more kids , you need to cut down more trees, to dump more plastic waste, to generate more electricities, to consume more resources in the planet. It is not people being bad, it is just the effects of people. We should embrace for electric cars, renewable energy sources and plant-based food, but they still cannot make up for over-population.

    There are too many advantages to becoming single based on many types of research findings. I cannot agree any more about the researches. Thinking about being single can avoid conflict with other relationships. 

    If you really want a kid to accompany with you. Why don't you consider to adopt one of the 153 million orphans that are already on the planet and need a home? Without the booming population, it will slow down climate change, ocean acidification, deforestation.

Meeting efficiency

 

    Some meetings go around in a circle without end. Usually, there is a misunderstanding somewhere, but everyone has assumed that the misunderstanding is actually a difference of opinion. Once a person has a belief that comes from his experience or culture dictates, he will draw a conclusion without listening to others’ opinions. The people will get stuck from time to time and the conversation is going in circles.  

     Meetings are supposed to improve productivity, efficiency, teamwork, communication, and collaboration. As a chairman, you have the responsibility to know the cost of the meeting, and it needs to be properly conducted before the meeting. This will help you lead the meetings that are efficient and effective. 

Some helpful tips are helpful for me:

1. Start the meeting on time and stick to the agenda

2. Assign the related person for collecting information or accomplishing the task

3. Don’t allow attendees to deviate from the goal of the meeting.

US debt ceiling

 

     Debt ceiling or debt limit is a legislative limit on the amount of money that the government is authorized to borrow to fulfill its financial obligations. From social security, military to medicare, the government has a lot of expenses. Because government runs budget deficits, meaning it spends more than it brings through taxes and other revenues. So the government issues debts. While the debt ceiling debate occurred, lawmakers request to cut back on government spending, lifting the debt limit to allow U.S. to finance existing obligations. 

     The national debt now stands at $28.43 trillion, which currently the borrowing cap is set at $28.4 trillion, leaving both parties, Republicans and Democrats have a long-run argument. Republicans refused to help Democrats increase the debt ceiling, in opposition to Biden's spending plans, especially $3.5 billion infrastructure plan. Biden is planning to build some infrastructure to cut carbon emissions and transform to the new energy system away from fossil fuel. 

    If the deal is not reached and the financial funding has to be cut, the federal museums, national parks, safety programs would have to close, halt the financial help for hurricane relief and Afghan refugees. Expert estimate that the Treasury could run out of money in mid to late October. In addition, it impacts individuals by cutting off benefits for seniors and paychecks for soldiers. US default could leave it unable to pay interest and maturities on Treasuries. It would produce widespread economic catastrophe and likely precipitate a historic financial crisis. Investors may lose confidence in the dollar as well, increasing inflation. Since 2011, U.S. has come to the brink of defaulting on its obligations, which many experts argue could have dire consequences for the U.S. economy and financial markets.

     In a short term, the market unrest will be a final factor to push Congress to act just days before the country goes into default. For long-term investors, make sure your money is diversified in line with your current risk tolerance and your investment objectives. You may need to explore more ways to dissipate the risk of investment loss. Anyway, stay focused on your goals.
